The Metric of a Good Leader || Episode 23

You hit the number. Or you missed it. Or your boss is watching every move. Different scorecards. Same problem underneath: some part of you never fully signs off on your own decisions.

The metric of a good leader is the distance between a decision and the leader's agreement with it. When that distance is small, you decide and you're done. When it's large, you keep deciding: at 11, after lunch, on the drive home.

In this solo episode, Ryan Watts names that gap, internal negotiation, and shows why adding more polish, process or proof only makes it bigger. Then he gives you a way to measure it in yourself this week.

In this episode:
- Why results, retention and engagement only show the scorecard
- How internal negotiation shows up when you hit the number, miss it, or lead under scrutiny
- The loop: scrutiny makes you hedge, and the hedging confirms the scrutiny
- Why you can't add your way out of negotiation
- Four signals the gap is small: decisions without residue, authority, clarity under the noise, results you can repeat
- The one-decision test

This week's question: Pick one decision you made. How many times did you decide it in your own head?
